Utada Hikaru has two digital singles, “Time” (May 8) and “Dare ni mo Iwanai” (May 19), out during May. She has launched a new Instagram Live series to promote these updates, and in line with coronavirus self-isolation steps!
Earlier today Utada Hikaru went live for the second episode of her show “Jitaku Kakuri-chu no Hikaru Paisen ni Kike” on Instagram! “After the first season, many foreign fans expressed frustration that she did not answer any questions in English. In this week’s episode she promised to answer English questions and she did not disappoint.

Her debut single “Automatic/time will tell” released on December 9, 1998 sold over two million copies, and at the young age of 16, she made her name as one of Japan’s top artists.
Just a few months later, she released her first album “First Love,” which set the record in CD sales in Japan. This record still remains unbroken.
All of her albums that followed have topped the charts. In 2007, her single “Flavor Of Life” set the world record in number of downloads.
In 2010, she took a break from her music activities to focus on her life as a person. In April 2016, she went full-throttle with her artist activities by releasing the singles “Hanataba Wo Kimini” and “Manatsu No Tooriame.”
Her sixth studio album “Fantome” was released in September 2016 with great success in both Japan and abroad, celebrating her first time for four consecutive weeks at #1 on Oricon charts, ranking at #3 on the US iTunes chart, and selling over a million units of CD and downloads total.
