Tom & Jerry Film Geek Impulse

Warner Bros. live-action/CGI ‘Tom and Jerry’ film has found its villain.

According to Deadline, Ant-Man star Michael Pena is set to join the film. Pena will reportedly play a bulling hotel manager named Terrance, who hires Kayla (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) but ends up at odds once she outshines him at work by hiring Tom to take care of the hotel’s mouse problem (Jerry).

Tim Story of Fantastic Four Fame and Ride Along is set to direct the film while Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano are writing the script. The writers are the duo behind The Peanuts Movie. A third writer is Kevin Castello. London is where the film will be made. The staff is looking to have things wrapped up by mid-September. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. The characters do not speak in the cartoon and it is said to be the same for the movie. The series relies heavily on physical style comedy.

Created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940, Tom and Jerry began as a series of brief shorts spanning 7 to 10 minutes. Hanna and Barbera continued to make Tom and Jerry shorts for MGM from 1940 to 1958, creating over 100 shorts in total. Tom and Jerry continued to be made, even after Hanna and Barbera departed MGM with one of the most notable adaptions headed by animator Chuck Jones. Shorts, series, and direct to video animated films have been released to this day.

CAA, Management 360 and attorney Rick Genow rep Peña, who stars in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico series and up next will Paramount’s Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Sony’s Fantasy Island remake.

We are not sure how this will play out. These kinds of remakes and live-action films are showing just how dead Hollywood is when it comes to original ideas. What do you think about this news? Let us know in the comments. Tentative release date of April 16th 2021
