IRON GIANT 2.0

Right on schedule with the infamous robot’s cameo in “Ready Player One,” the ’90s animated movie The Iron Giant will be added to the Netflix Streaming line up this week. Just a quick refresher, The Iron Giant takes place in October 1957 in the American state of Maine in the city of Rockwell during the height of the Cold War. This article is written to tell you about a new exciting independent addition to the film and story.

The newest addition is called Iron Giant 2.0 and was created by Christian Day and Kurt Baringer. The short film takes place 40 Years after the events of Rockwell, Kent Mansley talks about his life spent tracking down the government. You can take a look at the short film below.

We were contacted by the creator Christian Day to let us know about the project and we are glad they did. We need a follow up to the first and we think that this Iron Giant 2.0 is just the thing we needed at the moment. With the nostalgia Ready Player One gives us and the fact that the Character is in the movie, brings us hope that hype for a sequel will come. We recommend that the Geek Impulse Fam will give it a watch and let us know in the comments below what you all though about it.

Here are some notable facts about the first Iron Giant Film:
  • IT WAS ORIGINALLY MEANT TO BE A PETE TOWNSHEND MUSICAL
  • THE TITLE CHARACTER WAS COMPUTER GENERATED
  • IT FEATURES A PRE-FAST AND FURIOUS VIN DIESEL VOICING FOR THE TOWERING ROBOT AND ONLY SPOKE 53 WORDS
  • THE DESIGN WAS INSPIRED BY THE ART OF NORMAN ROCKWELL
  • IT INCLUDES CAMEOS FROM TWO DISNEY ANIMATORS. THE TRAIN WORKERS KENT INTERVIEWS AT THE TRAIN CRASH SCENE ARE FRANK THOMAS AND OLLIE JOHNSTON

I think Christian Day and Kurt Baringer created something that is both a great follow up to the original and something that really stands on its own. I would love to see a full length live action movie featuring elements and premise from this short. Well done. Truly.

We think that Christian and Kurt did a good job here with this. It would be great to see them work on the sequel. Perhaps we can get Hollywood to work with them on this.

Passion projects like this are really filling a much needed gap since Hollywood is only focused on box office. This is about paying homage to a beloved character, not using it to sell tickets. Iron Giant 2.0 is gorgeous and well produced. I hope Day and Baringer continue to make more films.

We at Geek Impulse hope they do as well. Hollywood as switched to making movies just to get ticket sales these days. I think a sequel to The Iron Giant would make a lot of money. Definitely a big enough cult following and if done right can get people in the seats.
