In case you missed it, Lego just got a lot more awesome with its new augmented reality-enhanced ghost-themed playsets. Players can take a haunted world and make it normal again. LEGO Hidden Side launches this summer. It has all the things you love about LEGO, but with a twist.

The project LEGO Hidden Side has a total of eight ‘Haunted’ building sets that need to be constructed manually. After the sets are completed, each user can activate the augmented reality app on their smart phones. Once activated a whole world comes to life. Several interactive mysteries and tasks begin to unfold. These are to be saved by the individual.

LEGO Group’s senior vice president of Creative Play Lab, Tom Donaldson had this to say, “kids expect exciting play experiences that move seamlessly between physical and digital worlds. At our core, we focus on tactile building, but AR presents opportunities to enhance physical LEGO play with new action and mastery elements.”

“The physical world actually influences the AR layer, instead of the other way around.”

Each LEGO set build allows characters to be story-driven. You have the real world settings such as schoolhouse, bus, or graveyard. Then those become transformed into a haunted version of themselves as soon as the AR is turned on them. Lead characters are Jack and Parker. They explore the town of Newbury with their mobile phones. They do this to solve paranormal activity. The app will prompt the user to hold up their phones to the physical LEGO model. In doing so they are able to interact with the models’ elements in order to solve the mystery. Virtual ghost is released and the player must capture them. Like a version of Ghost Busters. There are even independent games kids can play without the models.
