The Future is Here! Nike’s Adapt BB is Controlled By An App
The app lets you adjust how it fits around your foot as well as the ability to change its LED colors and much more.
We saw it in back to the future and rumors have been around for a few years now. Nike though has officially introduced the future with its first self-lacing basketball shoes. They are called the Adapt BB. These shoes are designed to be as custom and as comfortable as possible. The company says Nike Adapt BB is a, “truly customized fit for every basketball player.” The power-lacing system is called FitAdapt and can be adjusted manually or with a smartphone app. The brand says that over the course of a basketball game, a player’s foot can expand almost a half-size, which can affect their comfort level and ultimately have an impact on their movement and performance on the court. A problem Nike is solving with the Adapt BB.
“We picked basketball as the first sport for Nike Adapt intentionally because of the demands that athletes put on their shoes,” says Eric Avar, Nike VP Creative Director of Innovation. “During a normal basketball
gamethe athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience.”
As you would guess, the tech will require power, but Nike says you can expect to have a 14-day life per full charge. Charging your shoes will take 3 hours to do. This can be done with a Qi wireless charging mat that comes with every pair.
Key Points According To Nike:
- Lock down your fit with the touch of this button (or via the app using your phone).
- The upper’s outer black shell is made of high-tenacity Flyknit; the inner white shell is a QuadFit mesh for a fit that conforms to the foot and stays snug.
- The midsole features Cushlon foam.
FitAdapt technology will be available in the Nike Adapt BB beginning in February. What are your thoughts on these shoes? We including myself are Geeking out about these shoes and if we can get our hands on a pair it would be awesome.
