Dark Crystal Prequel Premieres on Netflix in August

Netflix has officially locked in its release date for its prequel series Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal: age of Resistance will be released for your escapism pleasure this summer by August 30th.

The series features the traditional Netflix style 10 episodes. This will be the return of the world of Thra. This is the world from Frank Oz and Jim Henson’s cult classic film from 1982. The series will feature Taron Egerton (Rocketman, Kingsman), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) and of course Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones Fame. They will be playing Gelflings Rian, Brea and Deet respectively. This trio inspires a rebellion against what they believe to be a cruel Emperor as they come across a horrifying secret.

Some of the star-powered cast include Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg. Jim Henson Company stalwart Donna Kimball will play Aughra (voiced by Oz in the movie). There will also be several puppeteers who will voice additional characters.

The series is directed by Louis Leterrier, executive produced by Leterrier, Lisa Henson, and Halle Stanford, with co-executive producers Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, and Blanca Lista.
