Reading Time: 3 minutes

Just a Warning, the following contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 Titled ‘The Long Night.’ If you have not seen the show yet proceed with caution.

The battle we have been promised for so long has finally arrived and has climaxed. The epic battle at Winterfell gave all of the big players in one place with a few exceptions. The episode gave what seemed to be an endless supply of dead. One after another the obstacles were overcome simply because of the large amounts of the undead. We are here to break down for you, who lived and who died.

Who Died?

  • Melisandre – She fulfilled her purpose. We see her toss her magic necklace and die of old age.
  • Jorah Mormont – While protecting Daenerys from wights, he get mortally stabbed multiple times.
  • Beric Dondarrion – He did not come back for a 19th time. He died helping the hound protect Arya.
  • Lyanna Mormont – She died by the crushing hands of a wight giant. She did stab him with dragon glass in the process.
  • Dolorous Edd – Saved Sam, but became a wight in the process.
  • The Night King, the Wight Walkers, Iced Viserion and every other wight. They either shattered or dropped dead when Arya, Who is the MVP, stabbed the Night King in the heart with Valyrian Steel.

Of course, almost all Dothraki died, some unsullied and various vassals and bannermen died in the battle.

Who Lived?

  • Daenerys Targaryen – Still Alive. Got some wight kills under her belt.
  • Jon Snow – Lived. Couldn’t get to Bran, fought some wights, on a dragon most of the show.
  • Bran Stark – He just sat there as bait long enough to have Arya kill the Night King.
  • Arya Stark – The skill of dropping a blade into her other hand came in handy.
  • Sansa Stark – Accepted her fate of dying alongside Tyrion to fight the wights in the crypt, but didn’t have too.
  • Tyrion Lannister – Was prepared to die in the crypt fighting, but didn’t have to.
  • Varys – Lived.
  • Samwell Tarly – Lived.
  • The Hound – Lived. Cleganebowl anyone???
  • Jaime Lannister – Super tired fighting with one hand, but lived.
  • Sir Brienne of Tarth – Alive alongside Jaime.
  • Podrick Payne – Lived and probably enlightening the nearest brothel.
  • Tormund Giantsbane – Lived and probably looking for the tall girl.
  • Missandei – Lived.
  • Gilly and Sam Jr. – Alive.
  • Grey Worm – Lived.
  • Dragon maybe Rhaegal – Alive, Not verified yet is Rhaegal.
  • Davos Seaworth – Alive.
  • Ghost – Alive but thought to be dead during the first scene. In next weeks promo so he lived.

The epic 90 minutes was historic and decently written. The continuity of characters and their roles were maintained, but at the same time expanded upon. House Mormont and Theon both found redemption before death. The Dothrakis seem to now be extinct as a people. The fog of war was displayed well on screen, though the episode was so damn dark. The composition was beautifully done. Everything came full circle in the end. Excited about the next episode.

I was so excited for this episode. Just sucks how damn dark everything is. I think you can still give a good vibe for the scenes while making them brighter.
