In the land know as Japan, joy can be found everywhere. Japan has many themed experiences. From themed cafe’s to themed trains. If you want a unique experience then Japan is your destination. With the Olympics coming once again in Tokyo for 2020 I expect we see a lot of new themed events for tourists and participants of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Last time in Japan I came across the POKÉMON with YOU Train. My phone wasn’t Charged so I wasn’t able to take photos. Super sad about that, however I found someone who took many photos so I wanted to share those here with you all now after I get into info about the POKÉMON with YOU Train. You basically enjoy a fun outing with the lively Pikachu.

Playroom Car

Try your hand at being the conductor in the driver’s cab or the engine room. Or play with the loads of gadgets and other fun things filling the area around the reclining Pikachu in the middle of the car.

Communication Seats
(reserved seating cars)

Depictions of Pikachu are everywhere, including the backrests of the seats, the curtains and much more!
Tickets for the POKÉMON with YOU Train are not available for sale outside of Japan. There are multiple ways to purchase tickets as follows.
Passes:
Purchase a pass that is for foreign visitors to Japan and covers the travel area. Recommended passes when visiting Japan
Tickets:
Available for sale at JR EAST Travel Service Centers and your local JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi).
Note: Not all services are available on certain trains when boarding with a pass or a ticket.

TIP:

If you have a Japanese travel agency nearby or if not google one and book through them because you can get rail passes for way cheaper. For example if you want to go from Tokyo to Kyoto it will cost you about $100 US or ¥10679.5 JPY for one way. If you plane to travel to several destinations while visiting Japan, travel agencies in your country usually allow you to order rail passes from them at a one time fee that can be used unlimited for the duration of your stay.

So Geek Impulse Fam, have you been to Japan? Do you have any tips for Otaku who are heading that way for a trip? What themed places have you visited? Let me know in the comments below!

The show in question is non-other than Neko Zamurai (Samurai Cat).  In this show a great warrior named Madara The Devil, is sent to assassinate a rivals cat. So what happened? He decided not to kill the furry little kitty and instead put the cat in his kimono.

Humanoid Robot Perfected: Takayuki Todo

I recently came across a video of a Humanoid Robot Perfected that fascinated me. I started off curious about what the video would show. I expected just another robot. Once the video started to play I became captivated. I couldn’t stop watching it. I have watched it several time since then. Each time I find myself in an uncanny situation. The artist managed to capture emotions in such a profound way, I found myself becoming emotionally engaged with every passing second.

Humanoid Robot Perfected
藤堂高行

The artist is 藤堂高行 Takayuki Todo. His video has gone viral. As of writing this it has already gotten over 1.2 nillion views just on Twitter alone and is starting to go viral on Facebook. I wish I can go on and put into words just how creative Takayuki Todo is, but instead I will leave a link to the video itself here so you can watch it directly as words cannot honestly convey the level of creativity, innovation and craftsmanship that was put into this work.

The future looks exciting and if more artist such as Takayuki Todo, continue to create and innovate and share it with the world I believe the future will be AMAZING!

Netflix Sorcery: FullMetal Alchemist Live Action Movie

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Before I get started on my thoughts for the Fullmetal Alchemist live action movie I thought I should introduce myself. I’m Kimberly and a new writer here at Geek Impulse. I’ll most likely talk about my hobbies which include reading manga and comics, watching Netflix, and dabbling in beauty and fashion. I look forward to sharing with you all my thoughts and finds.

Alright, now that that is out of the way we can get down to the nitty-gritty. When I heard Netflix was putting a live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie on their streaming service I had two thoughts; I love Fullmetal Alchemist and Oh no. Live action adaptations do not have the best track records and while there are some exceptions the general consensus is that they suck.

Visually the movie is pretty stunning, as long as you can look past the horrible wigs. The CGI Alphonse was not too bad to look at even if it was awkward in some of the movie situations. The sets and costumes were gorgeous in comparison to some other adaptations and I did not find myself cringing at some of the dialogue. (For some reason anime and manga can get away with cringe-worthy scenes).

What disappointed me was the story. When you try to cram a full season of anime in two hours you lose something in the process. For me, this was my connection to the characters. Ultimately, Fullmetal is about family, brotherhood and the horrors of humanity. Ed and Al have very limited screen time together, which was probably to help limit the cost of CGI. While Ed does mention his love for Al on multiple occasions we need to be shown through actions as well as words.

Fullmetal Alchemist also has a large cast of characters, most of which you come to love (for them to be horribly killed off leaving you reeling for days, OH HUGHES!). Some characters they omitted entirely, which aggravated me a little. In the anime and manga there are certain scenes that punch you straight in the gut so hard you lose your breath, in the adaptation, I barely even blinked.

It’s like the Law of Equivalent Exchange, I’m giving you my precious viewing time, give me a story and characters to care for. If you don’t  mind adaptations and are a huge Fullmetal Alchemist fan, watch the movie and tell me what you think. If not, just rewatch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, it’s also streaming on Netflix.

Pop Team Epic Endless 8 Episode

Pop Team Epic Endless 8 Episode

Episode 8 of Pop Team Epic will debut on Sunday February 25th. Because of its continued popularity the streaming service Abema TV will be streaming the episode a total of eight times in a row. There is nothing on their official website to confirm this there are a series of photos hinting at this. Fans have suggested that the episode is inspired of course by the 2009 ‘Endless Eight’ which was from the show Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

The show will start at 1:00 a.m. and go until 5:00 a.m. The episode itself is said to be split into two separate parts that are repetitive. The voice actors for Popuko and Pipimi will also change between those two parts as well. With that being said its basically the same content. If you watch the entire segment and I did the match correctly you will have seen the same segment a total of 16 times.  News of the special stream created a a bunch of rumors online, and we at Geek Impulse believe the cast of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will star in this upcoming episode.

The Book of Anime – DERE DERE (Tsundere)

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Book of Anime – DERE DERE (Tsundere)

Today we will be discussing Deres. If you are like how I was at first you probably never heard the word

before. Well that’s because it’s usually paired with a separate term like Tsundere or Yandere. Dere is

part of the seemingly never ending amount of personality tropes which has its roots originally in the

dating sim community and was used to express romantic interests. It of course eventually made its way

to the anime subculture so now you see many anime characters matching these archetypes.

Tsundere つんでれ/ツンデレ, is a combination of two Japanese onomatopoeia:

  • tsun tsun つんつん/ツンツン
  • dere dere でれでれ/デレデレ

Both words describe different attitudes. Tsun tsun refers to someone who acts cold, or blunt. The

onomatopoeia itself is actually the sound of someone sticking their nose up in the air, (hmmph) or

turning away in disgust. These are the characters who have challenges with being affectionate, so they

become overly dramatic about something usually irrelevant because they do not want to express their

feelings. These characters also go from nice to abusive to prove that the nice things they do for the

person they love have absolutely nothing to do with them.

On the other hand, dere dere describes someone who is affectionate or lovey-dovey. You may have seen

dere dere people in a relationship. They’re cuddly and use pet names with each other.

Now let me ask you, Have you ever been in love? Like crazy in love? Like so crazy in love you would kill

anyone who gets in the way of your love EVEN THE LOVE ITSELF!!!?

Then you might be yandere やんでれ/ヤンデレ. It’s made up of these two words:

  1. yanderu 病んでる/ヤンデル
  2. dere dere でれでれ/デレデレ

Yanderu basically means sick or depressed. Yandere are a bit paranoid mixed with a bit of psychotic and

even more so in love in the deepest of ways. These characters will kill, sabotage, or injure anyone who

they think might be moving in on their one and only. These characters will even go so far as to kill the

one they love if they feel they are being unfaithful or just so they can be together forever.

On the other hand, If you’re calm and composed, but have a heart full of passion, then you might be

kuudere くーでれ/クーデレ. It’s made up of these two words:

  1. kuru (Coodo”e”) くーる/クール
  2. dere dere でれでれ/デレデレ

“Kuuru” comes from “cool or icy” in English. Though it could just be part of a character’s persona they

could actually be someone without or little emotions.

Lastly we have Dandere. Dandere  だんでれ/ダンデレ is actually a Japanese homophone. This same word

has two meanings.

The first “dandere” is made up of these two words:

  1. dandii だんでぃ/ダンディ
  2. dere dere でれでれ/デレデレ

Dandii comes from the English word “dandy.” It is used in Japan to describe manly and sophisticated

men. Dandies look cool and don’t seem like the type to become affectionate.

The second “dandere” is made up of these two words:

  1. danmari だんまり/ダンマリ
  2. dere dere でれでれ/デレデレ

“Danmari” is the noun form of the verb “damaru which means to be quiet. So this dandere describes

someone who is quiet but actually feels “dere dere” in their hearts.

Examples of Dandere:

There are a ton of Deres out there such as

  • Darudere ダルデレ
  • Sadodere サドデレ
  • Bakadere バカデレ
  • Nyandere ニャンデレ

Do you have a favorite type of Dere? Where there more iconic Dere characters you wish we mentioned?

Megalo Box is Better Than Boxing Itself!

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Man and Machine Merge in Megalo Box

Futuristic boxing series with animation by TMS Entertainment heads to TBS and BS-TBS in April of 2018

After seeing the trailer for this action filled anime I had to share it with the rest of you. I love boxing. I love

technology. Put that together and you have Megalo Box. It’s a futuristic boxing anime that is an homage to

“Ashita no Joe.” It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years since Tomorrows Joe.

This anime is a vision of a not too distant future where boxers go against one another with the infusion of

prosthetics and exo-skeletons.

Megalo Box is directed by Yo Moriyama and features animation by TMS Entertainment.

The story follows J.D. (“Junk Dog”), who of course is a boxer who descends into the underground world of

“Megalo Box”,  there he finds it’s a place where fighters combine their training with special gear technology to

create the ultimate martial art.

The Book of Anime: Senpai

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Book of Anime: Senpai

Book of Anime is a  series where we define and explain for you, the terms used in anime and give

valuable insights into the anime industry. Today we are discussing the term Senpai. Senpai is a

(Japanese word) when translated into English means Upperclassman. Though I am sure you have heard

it a lot in anime so far, you may not know exactly why or how it’s used. So to give a simple example,

(pause) anyone older than you in school is a Senpai. This term of course automatically commands

respect and is an important distinction for the relationship dynamic. Senpai can be used by itself or at

the end of a name such as Saito-Senpai and is used in a place of work as well.

Let’s now look at from a Senpai perspective.  When a person is called Senpai, he or she wears it as a

badge of honor. We have all seen characters in anime take their role as Senpai very seriously. For Me

personally, being called a Senpai is humbling, but for Some though in anime or In real life insist upon it

being used when speaking to them. It’s important to Remember though The term can be a bit diluted in

Anime fan culture because pretty much anyone you have admiration for is considered Senpai. Hopefully

now that you have an explanation the term Senpai you have a better understanding of what it means

and how to use it.  So tell us, Do you have a Senpai in real life? If so let us know who your Senpai is in

real life.
