NEW RELEASE: Soul Calibur VI – The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia Gameplay Reveal

Reading Time: 2 minutes
So we have to talk about the latest reveal. There is so Much Hype these days for The WitcherWe have a Netflix original series happening soon. The games were awesome to play, so why not put Geralt of Rivia in Soul Calibur VI.

Geralt will be a guest fighter for the newest edition of the Soul Calibur franchise. The fighter reveal comes on the heels of the new Nightmare character introduction and Groh showcase video. You can see The Witcher character in the video below.

Geralt of course will have access to his two swords while fighting, ability-enhancing potions and a few Signs. There will also be a stage based on The Witcher training grounds of Kaer Morhen. It will be included in all versions of Soulcalibur VI game. Doug Cockle, the English voice actor for Geralt, has recorded additional lines for Soulcalibur VI, and the song “Hunt or be Hunted” from The Witcher 3 soundtrack will accompany Geralt in combat.

With the reveal of Geralt, Soulcalibur VI now has 9 confirmed characters on its roster. They are as follows:
  • Geralt (Guest Character from The Witcher 3)
  • Grøh
  • Ivy
  • Kilik
  • Mitsurugi
  • Nightmare
  • Sophitia
  • Xianghua
  • Zasalamel
The full roster is rumored to have 22 launch characters and an additional 6 DLC characters. In addition to those mentioned above, these characters may also make an appearance when the game releases:
  • Hwang
  • Talim
  • Friderich (Grøh’s adoptive father)
  • Jacker (Maxi’s lover)
  • Zasalamel (DLC)
  • Cervantes (DLC female guest character)

There was also a photo on Reddit that seemed to be leaked and show characters for the upcoming game. Perhaps this is why the developers are taking there time with the game release so that they can change the characters.

Rainbow Six Siege: Outbreak – Breaks Records

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Destroy Some Aliens and Zombies! Rainbow Six: Siege – Outbreak is fun!

Rainbow Six: Siege just continues to delight us. If only destiny could do something similar I would lay it more. Anyways, allow me to digress. The newest zombie update is absolutely Phenomenal. Do not take my word for it though. Just go online and play it. Its so good even my grandma tried to play it. True story. So many people are coming back to play it now as a result and there is good reasons why.

SteamCharts recorded a high of more than 176,000 players. That’s up from just over 47,000 players one year ago. The first batch of content for season three revolves around Operation Chimera, a Team Rainbow mission to contain a parasitic infection in a remote town in New Mexico. Check out our previous article here about Operation Chimera. Beyond the standard stuff, there are also some stranger enemies, like a zombie witch that spawns new enemies, and an alien who gets stronger as its HP depletes.

There seems to be an abundance of ammo everywhere which is nice. It seems that you are constantly getting ambushed so running out of ammo hasn’t happened. Similar to the main game, enemies and players can destroy walls and doors, but with that being said players can also barricade doors as well as set traps. Strategizing where to fortify against an incoming onslaught is a big part of surviving which is super important for the more intense combat engagements.

Really enjoying this mode! I hope we get more like this and with some of the other operators. Surprised it’s three players and not four, but I guess some of the areas are rather small. You get to choose some of your favorite characters so I play as Ash. You only have one month to play so get on it now!

I’m willing to bet my money though that this wont be just limited. Just the amount of time they must have spent on it would be HUGE – cutscenes (which weren’t even in the base game), tons of new animations, 5 new enemy types with unique attacks, visuals and animations, voice lines, music, story…seriously, removing it in a month would be the dumbest thing ever. So I think they will make it semi-permanent. Especially if they keep seeing the increase in the active daily users continue to increase.

Yakuza 6 Demo Turns into a full game download!!!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you were one of the lucky few to be one of the first people to download the Yakuza 6: The Song of Life demo yesterday, you were in for a lucky surprise. Yakuza 6’s demo was made available on the Playstation Store earlier yesterday and it was an over 30GB download! The reason for this large download was Sega accidentally released the entire game, with only the opening stages made playable.

The idea for this was that if you later decided to buy this game you’d be purchasing an unlock code to access the full game… that was the idea though.

Some lucky downloaders were left out of the lockout restrictions. Fans quickly realized this after playing to the end point of the demo, but were able to keep on going and earn trophies during their playthrough. It was almost as if it was Christmas for these lucky gamers because they got the new “unreleased” game for free!

Sadly, Sega quickly noticed and pulled the demo from the North American Stores. The European and Australian versions of the demo were however the intended download from Sega and are still available in their Playstation store.

There is no word however on whether Sega will be allowing those players who did get the free download to keep the game on their systems. It will be interesting to see in the next couple days because the idea of the demo was that it would retain the progress the player made in the demo and could continue on when they purchased the game or unlock code.

Let us know if you were one of the few who were able to obtain the game and tell us what you think about this whole downloadable mess.

Netflix is at it Again! The Witcher Franchise to Become an Original Series

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Lauren S. Hissrich announced this weekend that the pilot script for the new Netflix Original Series: The Witcher is now complete and is “out for notes”. Hissrichis is known for also writing for Netflix Marvel shows The Defenders and Daredevil, as well as the political TV show The West Wing. In December, it was announced that Hissrich had been hired to work on The Witcher show and she will also be serving as the Witcher program’s showrunner and executive producer, according to Variety.

Most people who think of The Witcher will automatically think about the game’s that CD Projekt Red created, specifically the most recent installation, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However back in May 2017 it was officially announced that the Netflix The Witcher series will be based on the eight-part novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski, instead of the games from developer CD Projekt Red. Sapkowski will be working on the English language drama series as a creative consultant.

Netflix is also working with Polish company Platige Films on the show. You may not know them by name, but you’re probably familiar with its work. The company produced the stunning Witcher 3 trailer called “The Trail” and also created cinematics for Halo 5: Guardians, among a long list of other projects.

Familiar characters such as Geralt of Rivia will still be included in the Netflix adaptation, but there is no word on who will play the main character Geralt or any other of the main characters from the series. Netflix will have a difficult time casting Geralt of Rivia due to fans love for the current voice actor who plays Geralt in The Witcher created by CD Projekt red.

Another big question among fans is whether or not Netflix will side with the character traits of Geralt from the book or the game. There are several key differences between the two that can determine who will play Geralt in this new series.

In the book Geralt isn’t as buff as CD Projekt Red Geralt. In fact, he’s being described as rather “lanky”, “slim”, or full of sinews. Milva, upon seeing the witcher’s upper body while he was resting in Brokilon, thought to herself that he looks like a proper man, albeit rather skinny, and full of sinew.

Book Geralt can be defeated and does get beaten fairly often. He was crippled and spared by Vilgefortz. During his fight with the mage Rience and his 4 assassins, Geralt was mortally wounded and would have bled to death if not for Shani and Philippa’s help. In the newest book, Season of Storm, Geralt was beaten to bloody pulp by a female guard-captain and her 4 other, also female, guards in an unarmed fight. Judging from the cutscenes and the mainstory found in The Witcher 2, Geralt had no trouble slaying two witchers in a 1v2 fight. This is a feat I don’t think book Geralt is capable of replicating.

Personality wise, book Geralt is rather sulky, gets offended easily and has somewhat a dosage of self-pity. He repeats the phrase “i’m just a simple, dumb witcher” a lot and  he does sulk from the his friends from time to time. Game Geralt, well, I’d say he’s less dramatic in that department and is very confident and charismatic in comparison.

Whatever route Netflix may take, here at Geek Impulse we are extremely excited for this series and can’t wait for any future updates.

Ready for the first Monster Hunter World DLC? I’m not.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

DLC Spoiler Beware – You’ve been warned, I will be discussing possible mechanics for a new monster that will be releasing soon.

Hey Geek Impulse Fam! I did my best to try to wait for the PC release. In the end I caved and purchased Monster Hunter World for the PS4. I can definitely say that I live with no regrets. Monster Hunter World is now in the top list of games I’ve ever played. Though it saddens me even more that the PC launch was delayed.

However back to the topic on hand! The first Monster Hunter World DLC will be releasing Spring 2018. I am completely new to the game title itself so I became quite impressed when I found out that the first DLC is free.

The DLC itself will feature a new monster, Deviljho. Deviljho is a large and very aggressive brute wyvern. One can expect him to show up unannounced, just like Bazelgeuse.

Here is an image of the insatiable wyvern. From my understanding Deviljho has breath attacks that do dragon damage with a great deal of quick attacks. However they result in him/her getting tired very easily and retreating for food.

What is quite comical to me was the fact that Deviljho will wander into your fight and eat any cut off tails, making the player lose the carving. I even got further laughs when my squad explained that they would have to use dirty tricks to deal with him, such as poisoned meat.

Currently my hunter rank is 14 and grinding my way up. Lots to do in terms of catch up. I can barely even handle Nergigante. I’m just hoping I will be ready with an arsenal of gear and weapons to deal with Deviljho. Be ready to see some beginner guides made my yours truly!

Key Visuals & Teaser released for ‘Caligula Effect’

Last year we received word that that FuRyu’s ‘The Caligula Effect’ RPG will be getting an anime adaptation. So what better way to reveal everything than FuRyu doing a livestream presentation, which they did with a promo, two new visuals, and information on the staff as well as the theme song performers.

We are seeing some cool stuff similar to the adaptation of Persona 5. The similarities of course that the actors of the game are reprising their roles in the anime adaptation. The opening theme is called ‘Paradigm Box’ and will be performed by Chiharu Sawashiro and Shunsuke Takeuchi in character while they switch things up in the ending named ‘Hypno’ will have Rie Murakawa, Ari Ozawa, Rie Takahashi, and Minami Tanaka.

The featured song is Reina Ueda’s “Distorted † Happiness (Anime Re:Arrange Ver.).” and you can see it all below in the video:

DICE Awards Game of the Year: Zelda Breath of the Wild & All other Winners

The DICE awards were last night. For those of you maybe not fully aware is seems there are award shows every month or every two weeks these days. With that being said though us gamers are getting represented even more and last night at the DICE awards held in Las Vegas was a shining example. It was the 21st awards show. Not sure if that is annual. So if you know when the first one was held let me know especially if you attended. Either way it is becoming more mainstream. I hope that is a good sign though anything mainstream kind of makes me nervous.

Last night was a big night for Nintendo. The fun to play game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won game of the year. There was a lot of hype for the game so this makes sense, plus it was warranted. Some other noteworthy winners include include Cuphead from StudioMDHR which took home three awards, two for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds from PUBG Corporation, and tow for Horizon: Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games. The Academy of Arts and Interactive Sciences gave the lifetime achievement award to none-other than Genyo Takeda who is the special corporate advisor of Nintendo which I believe is well deserved.

New Star Wars Script Finished for Episode IX

New Star Wars Script Finished for Episode IX

If you are like me, a fan of Star Wars, then this is sort of whatever news. I guess we just hope for the best. I know I am. JJ Abrams says that he has finished the script for episode IX. It seems these days Disney just wants to flood the market with as much Star Wars as possible. Instead of making a great story they settle for average story lines and focus on pushing merchandise.

Abrams appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert  was asked about progress on Episode IX. “We have a script, which is a big deal for me,” he said. “It starts shooting end of July. Sometimes having the script in advance is something I haven’t always been lucky enough to have. But I’m writing this with Chris Terrio, who’s a genius, and I’m having a great time.”

So I guess we have new movie that will come out some time in the summer of 2019. So what are your thoughts on the way Disney is handling the franchise? Do you think they are doing Star Wars justice? Do you think the last couple of movies are worthy of being called “Star Wars?” Let me know on twitter or in the comments below.
