Mercedes and NIVIDIA are Partners. In a live-streamed media event on June 23rd, from Stuttgart and Silicon Valley, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang announced that the automaker will launch software-defined, intelligent vehicles using end-to-end NVIDIA technology.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said: “We are excited to work with Mercedes-Benz. It’s the perfect partner for us given its long record of innovation and our strong technical relationship. It’s clear from our extensive discussions with Ola and his team that we share a common vision of the automobile of the future. Together, we’re going to revolutionize the car ownership experience, making the vehicle software programmable and continuously upgrade-able via over-the-air updates. Every future Mercedes-Benz with the NVIDIA DRIVE system will come with a team of expert AI and software engineers continuously developing, refining and enhancing the car over its lifetime.”
According to the Press Release, Starting in 2024, every next generation of Mercedes-Benz vehicles will include this first-of-its-kind software-defined computing architecture, including the most powerful computer, system software and consumer applications, which will turn traditional vehicles into high-performance, up-to – date computing devices.
“The car is a learning system,” Källenius said. “It’s like a very good butler — the more you use it, the better it knows and anticipates your preferences.” “Our mission was to take the user experience to a new level,” explained Ola Källenius, board member for group research and Mercedes-Benz car development. “To do this, we chose the best technology available to bring AI into the car and created a completely new user experience from the ground up.”
