The first officially licensed Totoro Restaurant is May’s Garden House located in Bangkok Thailand. Studio Ghibli does have its own themed eatery called the Straw Hat Cafe at the Ghibli Museum. Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki apparently fell in love with some chicken wings at a local food stall. He found out the stall, which was run by a woman nicknamed “May,” was going out of business. Suzuki came up with the idea for the restaurant to ensure those flavors could be served up in Bangkok. He also said the Thai countryside reminded him of growing up in Japan.

Here are some posts from their official Instagram:

Located in Sukhumvit, Bangkok, May’s Garden House Restaurant has been growing in popularity since we first published this article. There are areas such as the Children’s Playground, the Orchid Glasshouse, the Boat Water Pool, the Library and two Halls. Adults love this place, but many of the areas inside have been designed with children in mind.

Aside from the Kawaii Merchandise you can purchase there, the meals are all themed and almost too kawaii to eat. Italian owner-chef Federico Colpi, a colleague of Suzuki’s from the anime industry, is overseeing the development of the menu from before it first opened.
