Amazon Partners With Warner Bros. To bring A Lord of The Rings TV series to life
Warner Bros. and Amazon partner together to develop a Lord of The Rings TV Series directly to Amazon. Sources close to the Tolkien estate says the estate has been considering this option for some time now. Amazon has already confirmed they are committed to multiple seasons and are considering spinoffs of the series as well.
JD Payne and Patrick McKay (currently of Paramount’s Star Trek 4) are going to serve as show-runners on the Lord of the Rings TV series for Amazon. Here is their statement:
“The rich world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is filled with majesty and heart, wisdom and complexity. We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Amazon to bring it to life anew. We feel like Frodo, setting out from the Shire, with a great responsibility in our care — it is the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime.”
Amazon Studios made a multi-season, billion-dollar commitment to the world of J.R.R. Tolkein, and is producing the work in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema. The series will “explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring,” per Amazon. Is there enough material out there to further the story? Do you think this will be a winner? Let us know in the comments and or on social.
