LOS ANGELES — Breaking news from Associated Press reveals that a former business manager for the late Stan Lee, was arrested on elder abuse charges. Rumors had been circling for years about the potential abuses by comic book legend Stan Lee’s close associates.
Keya Morgan has been officially taken into custody in Arizona. He was originally charged last month in Los Angeles County by prosecutors. The warrant was outstanding at the time. Morgan will face felony charges that include theft, embezzlement, forgery or fraud against an elder adult, and false imprisonment of an elder adult.
The authorities say Keya Morgan had sought to capitalize on the Marvel Comic creators wealth and exert his influence over Lee even though he had no authority to be acting on his behalf.
In court documents, Lee’s daughter put in a request for a restraining order last year stating that Morgan was manipulating and mentally declining Stan Lee, preventing him from visiting family and friends. She goes on to say that he was attempting to take control of Lee’s money along with business affairs. Attorney Alex Kessel has said Morgan has never abused or taken advantage of Lee. Kessel wrote in an email on Saturday that he had been in contact with prosecutors to arrange for Morgan’s surrender on Tuesday. “It is unfortunate that the DA and police did not honor our commitment to surrender next week and arrested him,” Kessel said in the email. Morgan will eventually be extradited to Los Angeles where he will face charges against him while his bail was set at $300,000.
