J.K. Rowling will release four new stories about “Harry Potter” lore in June.
It has been a little over 20 years since the release of the first Harry Potter Book was published. J.K. Rowling will now be releasing 4 new stories. They will be e-books and be short stories. The e-books are said to focus on “traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the series” and will be released by Pottermore Publishing. The shorts will explore Hogwarts lessons such as Divination, Herbology, and Defense against the Dark Arts.
The first two books — “A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts” and “A Journey Through Potions and Herbology” – will be released on 27th of June while “A Journey Through Divination” and “Astronomy and A Journey Through Care of Magical Creatures” are expected to be released shortly thereafter.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 5, Minerva McGonagall says in a quote, “Divination is one of the most imprecise branches of magic.” In Harry Potter lore, Divination is considered to be a branch of magic which is used to foresee the future or gather insights into future events, through various rituals and tools.
Herbology in lore is the study of both mundane and magical plants and fungi. The Hogwarts students study how to care for, cultivate and utilize said plants and fungi to optimize their magical potential from their properties. These plants are what help to provide potions and medicines. Some are used of course for their magical effects.
The Dark Arts are thus explained with quotes from various characters of the series. Their quotes drive home the depth of the dark arts.
Tom Riddle exclaims “I have experimented; I have pushed the boundaries of magic further, perhaps, than they have ever been pushed —” Albus Dumbledore says “Of some kinds of magic. Of some. Of others, you remain… forgive me… woefully ignorant.” Another Quote from Tom Riddles states, ”The old argument. But nothing I have seen in the world has supported your famous pronouncements that love is more powerful than my kind of magic, Dumbledore.” The Dark Arts are highly regarded as having the unwavering ability to corrupt those who choose to use them. You can find these and more about the Dark Arts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
