HBO’s Next Big Fantasy Series ‘His Dark Materials’ Is What GOT Fans Need
HBO’s next big fantasy series after “Game of Thrones” will be “His Dark Materials,” a show based the book trilogy of the same name by Sir Philip Pullman. The first season stars Dafne Keen (“Logan”), James McAvoy (“Split,” “X-Men: First Class”), Ruth Wilson (“The Affair”), and Lin-Manuel Miranda (the creator of “Hamilton” and a star of “Marry Poppins Returns”).
The series is a joint production project by HBO and BBC. As mentioned the series is described as coming soon. The trailer has left fans and potential fans intrigued and curious with excitement coming off the Game of Thrones Series Finale.
If you committed years to Game of Thrones, we understand that you might be a bit hesitant. Having an all-star cast makes us a bit hesitant since it could be interpreted that they didn’t think it would be successful, but that is a bit too cynical. Having the cast they have is actually exciting since we have seen the cast in various productions that were great to watch.
According to Hypebeast:
The series (just like the books)
areset in an alternate world where one’s soul manifests as a shape-shifting animal called a Daemon. Centering around a young girl named Lyra Belacqua (played by Logan star Dafne Keen), the series will follow her as she travels to the Arctic to find her friend Roger who has been kidnapped and experimented on. Season one of His Dark Materials is adapted from the first installment of Pullman’s trilogy, The Golden Compass.
His Dark Materials is an epic trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman consisting of Northern Lights (1995) (published as The Golden Compass in North America), The Subtle Knife (1997), and The Amber Spyglass (2000). It follows the coming of age of two children, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry, as they wander through a series of parallel universes. The novels have won a number of awards, including the Carnegie Medal in 1995 for Northern Lights and the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year for The Amber Spyglass.
