Genius physicist Stephen Hawking known world-wide has died at the age of 76
Stephen Hawking died peacefully early morning on Wednesday. When Hawking was just 22 years old, the doctors discovered a rare form of motor neuron disease. He was given only a few years to live. Bound to a wheel chair and only speaking through a voice synthesizer he lived beyond expectations.
Stephen Hawking was an award-winning physicist and influential author. His notable works consisted A Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell. In a statement released by his family earlier this evening they said:
“We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years,” the family said in a statement. “His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humor inspired people across the world. He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’ We will miss him forever.”
Hawking leaves behind his wife, Lucy, and two sons, Robert and Tim. They thanked his fans who have “been by Professor Hawking’s side –- and supported him -– throughout his life.”
His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it's not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure. Stephen Hawking, RIP 1942-2018. pic.twitter.com/nAanMySqkt
