Disney is looking to cash in on the growing popularity of Augmented Reality (AR). Disney Star Wars looks to implement AR Technology into the new monorail system to create a more immersive experience. At Geek Impulse we think this sounds fascinating and if implemented it would be a hit with guests.

This window upgrade rumor comes just weeks after retired Disney Imagineer and Disney Legend Bob Gurr said he was confident that Disney was in talks to update the aging monorail, pointing out that the system was well past its intended lifespan, and mocked the current monorail fleet by calling it a “duct tape monorail.” The tech is described as “piggybacking” on recent patents by Walt Disney Imagineers, which plans to use projection mapping in upcoming Star Wars-themed resort hotel rooms that would give guests a view of outer space.

The inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend presented by Sierra Nevada Corporation enters the universe Jan. 15-18, 2015 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. The four-day race weekend will include kids races, a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon and a two-race challenge, plus Star Wars characters and other popular Disney entertainment elements. Registration opens June 10 at (Ali Nasser, photographer).

This will be Disney’s biggest park expansions ever. Totaling 14 acres of land. Disney Star Wars will be highly immersive with every restaurant, shop, and building inhabited by Star Wars droids and aliens. What do you all think about this? Are you done with Star Wars? It would see, that Disney seeks to shove the franchise down our throats. From a business stand point it makes sense, from a nostalgic fan like myself it makes me sad.
