The official website for the television anime of Yako Gureishi’s Somali and the Forest Spirit (Somali to Mori no Kamisama) manga announced on Monday that it will premiere on January 9th. You can find the anime on AbemaTV and Tokyo MX on January 9 at 00:00 (effectively January 10 at 12:00 a.m.) before debuting on BS-NTV on January 13. The official website also began streaming two short commercials on Monday, which preview the opening theme song “Arigatō wa Kocchi no Kotoba” by Naotarō Moriyama.

Crunchyroll is co-producing the anime, and it will stream the series as it airs in Japan. Crunchyroll also hosted the world premiere of the anime at Crunchyroll Expo in August.

Kenji Yasuda (Macross Delta, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens) is directing the anime at Satelight (Aquarion, Macross Delta) and HORNETS. Mariko Mochizuki (writer on Aquarion Logos, Last Hope, Senki Zesshō Symphogear AXZ, Sōsei no Aquarion Love) is supervising the series scripts. Ikuko Ito (Princess Tutu, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan) is designing the characters. Inori Minase, who stars in the show as Somali, is performing the show’s ending theme song “Kokoro Somali.”

The original Somali and the Forest Spirit manga is serialized in North Star Pictures’ Web Comic Zenyon digital manga magazine. The Somali and the Forest Spirit TV anime is directed by Kenji Yasuda and features animation production by Satelight. Crunchyroll describes the anime as follows, “In Somali and the Forest Spirit, the human species has been persecuted and driven to the point of extinction, and the surface world is ruled by a host of unusual-looking humanoids. One day in this strange world, Golem, the guardian of the forest, encounters a young human girl who addresses Golem as “Papa”. This is the story of that fateful meeting, the father-daughter bond that grows between human beings and forest guardians, and their journey together.”
