Space Force Might be Devoted to America’s Sovereignty Amongst The Cosmos
President Donald Trump is creating the world’s first Space Force. I am not sure about the rest of you, but this has me geeking out a bit. Like him or dislike him. I am sure though the first thought was you becoming a real life Storm Trooper. I am not sure what cosmic threats we will be facing as a nation, but sign me up. I was in the Marines, so this is super cool.
This directive from President Trump needs to pass through congress. There are so many things that money can be spent on. Do we need a Space Force? Here is some of the transcript:
“When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space,” Trump said during a National Space Council meeting at the White House. “We must have American dominance in space. So important.”
“We’re doing a tremendous amount of work in space,” he said at the time. “I said, ‘Maybe we need a new force. We’ll build a space force.’ And I was not really serious. And then I said, ‘What a great idea. Maybe we’ll have to do that. That could happen. That could be the big breaking story.”
“We will establish a long-term presence, expand our economy, and build the foundation for the eventual mission to Mars—which is actually going to happen very quickly.”
This would not be the first time the new administration flirted with this idea. The House Armed Services Committee last year voted to create a U.S. Space Corps, which would absorb the Air Force’s current celestial missions. The Pentagon said in a comment released to CBS News that:
“[We] will begin working on this issue, which has implications for intelligence operations for [other military branches]. Working with Congress, this will be a deliberate process with a great deal of input from multiple stakeholders.”
What do you guys think about the idea? We do not like politics here, but this is a geeky topic. This is the internet, but if we could keep it with thoughts on the subject matter that would be great. Let us try and leave our biases aside and geek out about this news and what it could mean for the future of humanity.
