We here at Geek Impulse had the pleasure of being invited to the red carpet event for the premiere of Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn directed by Masayuki Kojima. The premiere was presented by Sentai Filmworks and it was held at LA Live on March 15, 2019. Many honorary guests walked the red carpet such as Kevin Penkin, Shimpei Yamashita, Hiromitsu Iijima, and Masayuki Kojima were there to celebrate the premiere of the film. Many other celebrity guests attended the premiere such as Josh Barnett, Pooja Batra, Jason Caceres, and many more.
The film encompasses the main events that occur in the first 8 episodes of the first season. With the compositions made by Kevin Penkin, it allows the audience to feel the emotions and change of pace in the anime. However, for die-hard fans, this movie may not be what you were looking for. Not much was added to the story because the movie acts as a quick recap as to what happened in the first season. If you have already watched the first season of the anime then it will be similar to just rewatching the show you could find on Amazon Prime currently.
Slide Show of the Red Carpet:
As a huge fan of the show, I felt as if they could have done much more with the movie considering that there are many missing scenes from the manga that weren’t shown in the anime series. I felt like this was a film for those who are interested in watching this anime in a quick sitting. The movie takes away a lot of the emotional moments between Riko and Reg, and it left me feeling distant from the characters; unlike the anime.
There will be 2 more parts to the film series following the next episodes in the series. However, if you can’t wait to see Riko and Reg descend into the Abyss, you can find both seasons on Amazon Prime.
The movie is set to be in select theaters on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, and Monday, March 25, 2019.
Thank you again to Sentai Films for hosting the event, we here at Geek Impulse enjoyed our time at the premiere and we would also like to give a big thank you to you and your staff.
